SOME BACKGROUND ON THE ESTATE: Family-owned for 6 generations, the Allegrini family estate covers 120 hectares of vineyard rooted on the high hills of the Valpolicella Classico region. Although they have been growing grapes here for several centuries, Giovanni Allegrini was the first to start bottling wines from the family’s vineyards under the family name. When Giovanni died in 1983, he passed a passion for and a commitment to quality wine onto his three children – Walter, Marilisa and Franco. They worked together to build on Giovanni’s quality ethos and drive for innovation until Walter’s death in 2003. Franco now looks after the vineyards and the winemaking, while Marilisa takes charge of sales and marketing. The leagacy of Giovanni, however, is never forgotten as the family continue to push forward and innovate. His introduction of new trainings systems in the vineyard is at the heart of the style of the Allegrini Valpolicella Classico – beautiful fruit concentration coupled with wonderful fresheness harnessed by a minimal approach to winemaking. Giovanni’s bravery to bottle single vineyard wines outside of appellation requirements and the next generation’s innovation with Appassimento, gives us the single vineyard Palazzo della Torre – a unique red wine created with a singular technique. Today, the family also prodcue a Soave, at Oasi San Giacamo, continuing the family tradition of developing and evolving, prodcuing wines with as much energy as the history they proudly champion.
